JWST observations reveal dust and water near Milky Way's supermassive black hole

The James Webb Space Telescope has detected dust and water surprisingly close to the Milky Way's supermassive black hole, Sagittarius A*. This finding, based on observations of the star IRS 3, challenges existing theories about extreme black hole environments and suggests these regions can still foster materials essential for new star and planet formation.
