MIT PhD Student Hunts for Elusive Dark Matter Particle, the Axion

MIT PhD student Jessica Fry is actively involved in two experiments, ABRACADABRA and DMRadio, designed to detect axions, a leading theoretical candidate for dark matter. These experiments operate on the principle that axions should produce a faint, oscillating electric current in the presence of a strong magnetic field. Her work represents a focused effort in the global quest to directly detect dark matter, which constitutes approximately 85 percent of the universe's matter.
