MIT Research Suggests Language Not Required for Logical Thought

MIT neuroscientists have presented evidence that language and logical reasoning are distinct brain systems. A study published in PNAS showed individuals with severe language impairments could solve complex logic puzzles as effectively as others. Brain scans also indicated language regions were inactive during logical reasoning tasks in healthy adults, suggesting abstract thought can occur independently of linguistic processes. This challenges previous assumptions about the relationship between language and cognition.
