Webb Telescope Detects Water and Dust Near Milky Way's Central Black Hole

The James Webb Space Telescope has detected oxygen-rich dust and water around the star IRS 3, located near the Milky Way's central supermassive black hole, Sagittarius A*. This finding, the first time water has been observed in this harsh environment, suggests that crucial materials for future star and planet formation can survive surprisingly close to a galactic center.
