Starlink Satellites Repurposed to Map Earth's Upper Atmosphere

Kyoto University researchers have developed a novel method to map Earth's upper atmosphere by leveraging orbital data from 1,200 Starlink satellites. This technique reconstructs atmospheric density changes at 500 km altitude, offering significant improvements for satellite tracking and collision risk mitigation in crowded low Earth orbits.
