Astronomers Discover Rare Close-in Brown Dwarf Orbiting Massive, Aging Star

Astronomers have identified HIP 61637 b, a brown dwarf in a near-circular, close-in orbit around a massive, aging A-type star. This discovery is significant because close-in brown dwarfs are exceptionally rare, a phenomenon known as the 'brown dwarf desert,' which challenges theories of substellar object formation and orbital evolution.
