AI System Predicts Solar Eruptions Hours in Advance

An NJIT-led team developed EarlyDetect, an AI system that identifies faint warning signs of solar active regions, precursors to solar storms, nearly nine hours before visibility. Analyzing NASA SDO data, this capability could enable satellite communications and power grid companies to prepare for and mitigate potential damage from solar events. This represents a significant advancement in space weather forecasting.
