New AI Model Forecasts Solar Eruptions Hours in Advance

A research team led by the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) has developed an AI system called EarlyDetect that can identify subtle warning signs of solar active regions, which are precursors to solar storms, nearly nine hours before they become visible. This capability could provide critical early warnings for protecting satellite communications and power grids.
