JWST Reveals Neptune's Inner Moons May Be Debris from Ancient Catastrophe

Observations by NASA's James Webb Space Telescope suggest that Neptune's tiny inner moons, Larissa, Galatea, and Proteus, along with its rings, contain clay-like minerals that form in the presence of liquid water. This unusual chemical makeup supports the hypothesis that these moons are the wreckage of a previous satellite system destroyed when Triton, Neptune's largest moon, was captured.
