New Extinct Ice Age Spadefoot Toad Species Discovered in La Brea Tar Pits

Scientists have identified a new extinct amphibian species, named *Spea labreae*, from fossil collections at Los Angeles' La Brea Tar Pits. This Ice Age spadefoot toad represents an exceptionally rare find, as only one other extinct Pleistocene amphibian has been previously discovered at the site. The discovery sheds new light on the ancient biodiversity of the region.
