James Webb Space Telescope Detects Possible Water Vapor Signal on Rocky Exoplanet GJ 486 b

The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) has detected a signal resembling water vapor on the rocky exoplanet GJ 486 b, located approximately 26 light-years from Earth. While initial observations suggested the presence of an atmosphere, follow-up data indicate that the planet likely has little to no atmosphere, with the signal potentially originating from starspots on its host red dwarf star. GJ 486 b has a radius about 1.3 times that of Earth and a mass close to three Earth masses.
