New Atomic Manipulation Method Could Boost Quantum Device Production

Researchers from MIT and Oak Ridge National Laboratory have created a technique, dubbed an "atomic photocopier," to precisely and repeatedly move atoms within a material's 3D lattice. This innovation allows for the rapid generation of quantum defects, with over 40,000 defects produced in about 40 minutes, potentially accelerating the development and manufacturing of smaller, more robust quantum devices and advanced materials.
