ESA funds European startups to diversify space launch capabilities.

The European Space Agency (ESA) has awarded initial contracts to Rocket Factory Augsburg, Isar Aerospace, and PLD Space as part of its European Launcher Challenge. This initiative seeks to expand Europe's independent launch options beyond existing Ariane 6 and Vega-C rockets. Funding is conditional on these startups achieving orbit by the end of next year, with PLD Space receiving €158.9 million for its MIURA 5 vehicle development.
