NSF Funds New Center to Design Reliable, Self-Correcting Quantum Computers

The U.S. National Science Foundation has awarded a $37.5 million grant to a multidisciplinary team, including computer scientists at the University of California San Diego, to establish a new center. This center will focus on designing practical and self-correcting quantum computers, addressing the challenge of qubit fragility and aiming to develop a path toward industrial-scale error-correcting machines within five years.
