This method deflects lithium-filled intrusions, known as dendrites, which typically cause battery failure. The findings, published in Nature, also provide direct evidence that dendrites originate within the electrolyte, resolving a long-standing debate and offering a promising approach for designing safer, more reliable solid-state batteries.
