Study Indicates Spaceflight Does Not Reduce Heart Muscle Cell Strength

A new study in npj Microgravity, led by University of Chicago researchers, suggests microgravity does not diminish heart muscle function. The research involved five mice on the International Space Station (ISS) compared to an Earth control group. While no reduction in heart function was observed, the study did find evidence of inflammation in heart muscle cells, which warrants further investigation for long-duration space missions.
