New Study Reveals Numerous Glacial Earthquakes Near Thwaites Glacier in Antarctica

A study published in Geophysical Research Letters has identified hundreds of previously undetected glacial earthquakes in Antarctica, with 245 concentrated near the Thwaites Glacier's marine edge. These seismic events are attributed to large icebergs breaking off, capsizing, and colliding, coinciding with accelerated ice flow. The findings suggest changing ocean conditions may be contributing to the destabilization of this critical glacier.
