NASA's Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope Launches to Explore Dark Energy, Dark Matter, and Exoplanets

The Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, named after NASA's first chief astronomer, successfully launched aboard a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket. The telescope is designed to provide a field of view 100 times wider than the Hubble Space Telescope, enabling it to survey the universe approximately 1,000 times faster. Its mission is to investigate dark energy, dark matter, and discover thousands of exoplanets. Roman is on a three-month journey to the Sun-Earth L2 Lagrange point, where it will join the James Webb Space Telescope. First images are expected in early 2027.
