A multi-institutional environmental DNA (eDNA) study, led by the University of Western Australia, has revealed distinct regions of extraordinary marine biodiversity in Exmouth Gulf, Western Australia. Published in *Diversity and Distributions*, the findings identify the gulf as a globally significant refuge for numerous marine species, including critically endangered ones.
