MIT Researchers Create Detailed Atlas of Brain's Striatum, Offering New Avenues for Drug Treatments

MIT researchers have generated a new atlas of neurons within the striatum, a brain region crucial for cognitive and motor functions and implicated in disorders like Huntington's disease, schizophrenia, and addiction. Using single-cell RNA sequencing, they identified 31 neuron subgroups, including those involved in addiction, depression, and schizophrenia, and discovered why some striatal neurons are more vulnerable to Huntington's disease, potentially aiding new drug development.
