MIT Researchers Create Detailed Atlas of Brain's Striatum, Offering New Avenues for Drug Treatments

Researchers at MIT have generated a new atlas of neurons within the striatum, a brain region crucial for cognitive and motor functions and implicated in disorders like Huntington's disease, schizophrenia, and addiction. Using single-cell RNA sequencing, they identified 31 subgroups of neurons, including those involved in these conditions, and discovered why some striatal neurons are more vulnerable to Huntington's disease. This detailed map could serve as a foundation for developing new drug treatments.
