New research by CSIRO has investigated the potential of "orange hydrogen" production in Western Australia's Yilgarn Craton. This method stimulates serpentinisation, a natural geological process where water interacts with iron-bearing minerals in rocks to produce hydrogen gas, by injecting CO2-saturated water underground. The study also found that these same rocks can permanently store carbon dioxide, offering a dual benefit of clean energy production and carbon storage.
