CERN's Beam Gas Curtain Monitor Receives Faraday Cup Award After 20 Years of Development
Professor Carsten Welsch of the University of Liverpool has been awarded the Faraday Cup for his leadership in developing the Beam Gas Curtain (BGC) monitor, a diagnostic instrument now in continuous operation at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. Developed in collaboration with CERN and the GSI Helmholtz Centre, the BGC monitor measures high-intensity particle beams without disturbance, addressing a long-standing challenge in accelerator physics.
