NOAA Issues El Niño Advisory, Warning of Potentially Historic Event

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Climate Prediction Center has issued a formal El Niño Advisory, indicating a rapidly accelerating warming trend in the tropical Pacific. Forecasters now estimate a greater than 90% chance of a very strong El Niño event during the Northern Hemisphere's upcoming fall and winter, with a 69% chance that this warming cycle could reach historic levels, rivaling the strongest events recorded since 1950.
