CERN to Migrate Accelerator Controls Infrastructure to Debian from RHEL

CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, is transitioning approximately 2,200 embedded accelerator-control machines from Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) to Debian 13 ("Trixie"). This strategic shift is driven by RHEL's evolving microarchitecture mandates, which threatened to prematurely obsolete existing functional hardware. The migration is strictly limited to accelerator control systems, with the organization's larger compute farms and Tier-0 grid infrastructure continuing to use AlmaLinux and RHEL.
