Astronomers Observe Formation Process of Massive Binary Star System

Using multiple telescopes including ALMA and JWST, astronomers have obtained a detailed 3D view of a massive binary star system in its early formation stages. Tracking the two young stars over nearly eight years revealed an elongated orbit and tilted gas disks. This observation suggests the stars formed independently before converging gravitationally, offering a new model for how close massive binary systems develop.
