Vera C. Rubin Observatory Begins Surveying Southern Sky, Columbia Researcher Aids Data Access

The Simonyi Survey Telescope at the Vera C. Rubin Observatory has commenced its survey of the entire southern sky, aiming to create the most detailed and comprehensive map of the night sky over the next decade. A Columbia research scientist is leading efforts at the LSST Discovery Alliance to help the scientific community effectively utilize the massive amounts of data expected from this major new telescope.
