JWST Detects Protoplanetary Disk Orbiting Small Brown Dwarf

The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) has observed a protoplanetary disk, material from which planets form, around a brown dwarf in the IC 348 region. This brown dwarf is estimated to be only twice Jupiter's mass, suggesting planet formation can occur in unusually small environments. This discovery expands the potential range for exoplanet searches to lower-mass objects.
