Research Proposes Earth Formed Mainly from Inner Solar System Matter

A new ETH Zurich study suggests Earth predominantly formed from material within the inner Solar System, challenging the theory that water-rich outer Solar System material played a major role. Analyzing meteorite isotope ratios, researchers found less than two percent of Earth's mass originated beyond Jupiter. This implies water may have been present closer to the young Sun than previously believed, altering our understanding of planetary formation.
