JWST Observations Challenge Kuiper Belt Formation Theories

The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) has identified 27 previously unknown Trans-Neptunian Objects (TNOs), some as small as six miles wide, in a detailed study. This finding suggests the Kuiper Belt beyond Neptune may not primarily consist of dust and crumbs, as previously theorized. The new data indicate only a slight increase in smaller objects, challenging existing models of how these icy bodies evolve through collisions.
