Galileo Satellite System Achieves First Authenticated Position Fix Against Spoofing

The European Space Agency's Galileo system successfully performed the first real-world civil authenticated position fix using its upcoming Signal Authentication Service (SAS). During a September 16 test, five Galileo satellites transmitted an encrypted signal, enabling secure location verification for receivers in Norway and at ESA's lab.
