Astronomers discover first microblazar with a jet aimed at Earth in our galaxy
Astronomers have identified the first-ever microblazar within our own Milky Way galaxy, a black hole system with a jet of material aimed directly towards Earth. This microblazar, named IRAS 18293-0941 and located 12,000 light-years away, consists of a black hole accreting material from a companion star and expelling it in two jets at three-quarters the speed of light. The discovery was pre-published on arXiv on September 1, 2026, and has been accepted for publication in the journal Astronomy & Astrophysics.
