James Webb Space Telescope Reveals Gravitationally Lensed Galaxies, Explains 'Little Red Dots,' and Detects PAHs in Metal-Poor Galaxy
New observations from the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) have revealed hundreds of gravitationally lensed galaxies in the MACS J0454.1-0300 cluster, offering a "cosmic house of mirrors" view of distant objects. Additionally, new research suggests that the mysterious "Little Red Dots" observed by JWST in the early universe may be overfeeding supermassive black holes. JWST has also detected unexpectedly compact clumps of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in Sextans A, a galaxy with very low metallicity, challenging existing models of how these molecules form and survive in such environments.
