A new South African seaweed species, Mzanzia boltonii, has been identified and named in honor of Emeritus Professor John J Bolton from the University of Cape Town. This recognition acknowledges his significant contributions to marine flora research. The species was formally described in a study published in Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution, which used genomic evidence to reclassify a group of red algae previously misidentified.
