James Webb Space Telescope traces record-distant Fast Radio Burst to a surprisingly small galaxy
The James Webb Space Telescope has identified the host galaxy of the most distant Fast Radio Burst (FRB) ever observed, FRB 20240304B. The signal, first detected in 2024 by the MeerKAT radio telescope array, originated when the universe was only about 3 billion years old. Webb's near-infrared instruments traced the burst to a galaxy far smaller than astronomers previously expected, providing new clues about the origins of these mysterious cosmic phenomena.
