NASA Selects PRIMA, a $1.2 Billion Far-Infrared Telescope to Complement James Webb
NASA has chosen the Probe far-Infrared Mission for Astrophysics (PRIMA) as the first mission in a new class of astrophysics probes. With a budget of $1.2 billion, PRIMA is designed to observe far-infrared light in a range (24-235 micrometers) that the James Webb Space Telescope cannot reach, making it a complementary instrument for studying the universe. The mission is managed by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and its concept development was led by Jason Glenn of the University of Virginia.
