Chemists Create Novel Molecular Cage for Aromatic Molecule Encapsulation
Researchers have developed a neutral D3-symmetric π-conjugated cage, termed 'π-armor,' capable of both reversible binding and permanent encapsulation of aromatic guest molecules. This dual-mode hosting is governed by shape complementarity, allowing the cage to reversibly bind smaller aromatics or permanently trap larger ones during its formation, even if they protrude through its openings. Published in ACS Publications, this work advances host-guest chemistry.
