Astronomers Discover a Brand-New Type of Black Hole Star in the Early Universe
Astronomers, using NASA's James Webb Space Telescope, have identified an extremely bright red spot in the early universe that resembles an enormous star but emits energy levels typically associated with a black hole. This unique object, dubbed a 'black hole star,' is believed to be a mashup of a black hole and a star—a combination never before observed. Researchers from MIT suggest it is a hugely dense cloud of gas powered by a central black hole 100,000 times the mass of the Sun, surrounded by an extended envelope of gas the size of our solar system.
