Astronomers Discover New Type of "Black Hole Star" in Early Universe with James Webb Space Telescope
Using NASA's James Webb Space Telescope, astronomers have identified an extremely bright red object in the early universe, just a few hundred million years after the Big Bang. This object, dubbed a "black hole star," is believed to be a mashup of a black hole 100,000 times the Sun's mass surrounded by an extended gas envelope the size of our solar system, powered by the central black hole rather than nuclear fusion. This discovery, published in Nature, represents a new type of astrophysical source.
