Researchers Enhance Heart Muscle Cell Maturation Using Chromosome Doubling
Japanese researchers developed a method to produce more mature human heart muscle cells from induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells. By doubling chromosomes before differentiation, mimicking a natural process, they achieved larger, more functional cardiomyocytes with improved mitochondrial activity and stronger contractions. This advance could impact regenerative medicine for cardiac conditions.
