MIT Researchers Develop Implantable Device to Enhance Brain Drug Delivery
Researchers at MIT have designed an implantable drug-delivery device aimed at preventing the recurrence of glioblastoma, an aggressive brain tumor. The device features a reservoir for extended drug release and ultrasound transducers that use sound waves to help drugs bypass the blood-brain barrier and spread further through the brain. The study, published today in the journal Device, demonstrated enhanced molecular spread in tissue models and a mouse study.
