MIT Develops LUCID Implant for Ultrasound-Enhanced Brain Drug Delivery
MIT researchers have created LUCID, an implantable device designed to improve drug delivery within the brain. The device combines an injection tube with 24 ultrasound transducers, which have demonstrated in tissue-mimicking gel and mice that ultrasound significantly enhances the spread of injected substances. This technology aims to overcome passive diffusion limitations, potentially improving treatment for conditions like glioblastoma.
