NASA's Swift Observatory Nears Earth Reentry After Failed Rescue Mission
The Swift Observatory, an aging NASA telescope, is on the verge of plunging back to Earth following a failed rescue attempt. The US Space Force predicts the 1.5-ton telescope will reenter the atmosphere around Friday. While most of it is expected to burn up, some denser components could survive. The mission's chief scientist, Brad Cenko, noted that any surviving wreckage would most likely fall into the ocean, though parts of Africa, Australia, India, Southeast Asia, and Central and South America are within the reentry zone.
