JWST Detects Dynamic Water Clouds on Nearby Brown Dwarf

The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) has observed dynamic water clouds on the brown dwarf WISE 0855−0714, located 7.5 light-years away. Continuous 11-hour observations revealed these upper atmospheric water clouds thicken and thin over time, alongside variations in carbon monoxide and phosphine. This marks the first confirmation of such changing water clouds on an exoplanetary body, suggesting atmospheric convection similar to Jupiter.
