Hubble Reveals Oxygen Deficit in Dwarf Galaxies, Challenging Models
NASA's Hubble Space Telescope has discovered that many nearby dwarf galaxies contain significantly less oxygen than current simulations predict. A study of 37 dwarf galaxies, published in The Astrophysical Journal, suggests that galactic winds, driven by massive stars and supernovae, are more efficient at expelling oxygen from low-mass galaxies than previously modeled. This finding indicates dwarf galaxies retain only a small fraction of the oxygen produced by their stars.
