Physicists Confirm Third Type of Magnetism: Altermagnetism

For nearly 90 years, scientists believed magnetism existed in only two categories. However, researchers have now confirmed a remarkable third type called altermagnetism. Using specialized X-rays, a SLAC-led team provided key evidence for this new magnetic phase, first postulated in 2022, which has potential implications for the development of next-generation electronics.
