NHL Teams Rush to Sign Eight-Year Contracts Before New CBA Deadline

NHL teams are actively signing players to eight-year contracts as a new collective bargaining agreement (CBA) deadline approaches at midnight, after which the maximum contract length for re-signing with one's own team will be seven years. Notable among these deals is Washington locking up Ryan Leonard for an eight-year, $84 million contract starting in the 2027-28 season.
