Alex Ovechkin Announces Retirement from NHL After Current Season

Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin, the NHL's all-time leading goal scorer, has announced his intention to retire at the end of the current season. The 41-year-old stated that he and his family made the decision this summer, expressing his love for the game but acknowledging it's the right choice. Ovechkin is currently 11 goals away from breaking Wayne Gretzky's record for most combined goals (regular season and playoffs) in league history.
