NBA Experiments with Smart Basketballs and Wrist Wearables in Preseason Games

The NBA is testing new high-tech equipment, including smart basketballs with Bluetooth sensors for data collection and wrist wearables for officials to communicate with the replay center, in select exhibition games leading up to the season. The data from the smart basketballs will be for research only and will not affect in-game calls.
