MLB Proposes Shortened Regular Season and Expanded Division Series in Collective Bargaining
Major League Baseball has proposed significant changes to its structure during collective bargaining with players, including shortening the regular season from 162 to 154 games starting in 2029 and expanding the Division Series to a best-of-seven format. The proposal also suggests allowing higher-seeded teams to pick their opponents in the first two rounds of the postseason beginning next year, and instituting a weekly off-day for most teams starting in 2029.
